The most beautiful place I’ve seen

I suspect that to many people who read this blog, Pakistan feels like a pretty remote place. Sure, you’ve heard of it, but you never imagined you’d actually go there. Obviously, it wasn’t the same for me. Even on the tails of a 20 year separation, I always figured I’d find my way back to Pakistan. That is, at least to Karachi. But there were other parts of the country that felt as inaccessible to me as they probably feel to you.

Naan stop: an outsider feasting through Pakistan (guest post by Jack)

There’s a common line when someone is advertising their culture. The template is something like, “we do this, we’re good at this, and oh, we REALLY love food!” It has always struck me as a little bold for a cultural representative to claim ownership over loving food. Doesn’t everyone love food? My three-week visit to Pakistan has softened my view. Pakistanis love food. REALLY. And now I know why: they contend for the best cuisine on the planet. I’m not just saying that because my in-laws will read this.
